the kitchen
November 25th, 2009one of the worst things about being at camp casey is the quarters. basically, i have one room, which serves as my bedroom/living room/kitchen/storage closet, with an attached bathroom. it’s not too bad—i don’t have a roommate or have to share a suite—but it’s definitely not like living in an apartment or condo off post, as married soldiers do. the real worst things are the curfew and the remoteness of post—it takes an hour-and-a-half to get to seoul.
anyhow, sometimes the white cinderblock walls get pretty depressing, and furthermore, i am seriously lacking in storage space. especially in the kitchen. so i took matters into my own hands and attained shelving that sticks to the walls on ultra-strong suction cups, simultaneously increasing storage space and making my room feel slightly more homey…
and, of course, i have “the ex knife set” and a brand new spice rack! granted, most of the spices i went out and purchased for use on my spice rack i have never used, but they look pretty! they also smell good, and i suppose miwa can come over and cook for me =)

i bought this waffle maker when i first got to korea, and i still have never used it!

air soft, 10-25-09
October 25th, 2009so yesterday meehwa and i went out to an air soft place near gwanghwamun. she was a surprisingly good shot. well, i take that back. i shouldn’t say surprising, because she’s a badass, so of course she can shoot well! even on her first time.
in the end, we won a prize for our excellent marksmanship. we named him kegogi! (which means dog meat). muahahahaha
2010 dodge challenger srt8!!!
August 13th, 2009
james did it. james finally did it. he went out and bought a brand new 2010 dodge challenger srt8!!! it’s not quite james’ dream car (that title currently belongs to the ’70s version and its hemi cuda cousin, neither of which james can afford), but it’s the next best thing.
of course he had to get it in manual, decked out with all the goodies, to include:
- 6.1 liter hemi v8 engine, churning out 425 horses and 420 lb-ft of torque
- 6-speed tremec manual transmission
- 20″ wheels with brembo calipers/anti-lock brakes
- power sunroof
- 13 speaker, 322-watt amp, 200-watt subwoofer sound system
- am/fm/cd/dvd/hdd/mp3 radio with touch screen navigation system and voice recognition
he got it in all black, without the hood stripes.
additionally, james is planning to make a few additional modifications, including adding white rally stripes, an aftermarket shift knob, chrome rims, oracle halo headlamp and foglight kits, mopar racing seats, a mopar rear go-wing pedestal spoiler, and uconnect wifi, which would transform james’ srt-8 into a mobile wifi hotspot. but most excitingly of all, he is getting a custom paint job of the chicago skyline on each side of the car, with the words “chicago, il” on the rear quarter panels. the skyline will be entirely in white, to go with the white rally stripes on the hood, on an all-black car. it’s gonna be so fucking badass!

you’ll just have to wait and see!!!
what you get when you mix james with a new pack of stickers and invite him to your house
August 3rd, 2009little did miwa know when she invited james over that he had just obtained a fresh, unopened pack of inanimate stickers!!! (available here). this is why you should not let james get his hands on anything remotely fun and interesting—especially not within your own house—unless you are prepared for lots of fun getting everywhere!!! :p
team reshane vaults into first place
May 26th, 2009after a dominating day at the plate and on the mound, team reshane jumps 8.5 points and vaults into first place!!!
i’m now leading the league in runs and home runs, with strong numbers in rbi, wins, saves, strikeouts, and whip. my stolen bases, batting average, and era could all stand to improve, but hopefully picking up michael bourn will help with the stolen bases and the fact that my pitchers are actually pitching well now will lower my era. anyways i’ve been steadily rising over the past month thanks to my secret weapon: joe mauer!
i’m glad i’m doing well. this is actually my first fantasy baseball team since i last managed in 2006. since then i’ve always been away for large parts of the summer, so i’ve had to switch my focus to fantasy football. it would be nice to add another trophy.

james gets a shiny new korean phone

giving thanks
November 29th, 2008so for thanksgiving day, a bunch of us got together and had a huge thanksgiving day dinner at amanda’s place. the turkey, cooked by amanda, was superb.

view from amanda’s balcony… no nikes and i didn’t jump in the pool like we did on halloween!
afterwards, we played ‘guitar hero world tour.’ meneley is definitely passing on her addiction to everybody else!

yeah, based on our performance in ‘guitar hero,’ we should probably stick to killing!
i tried singing ‘misery business’ by paramore. man that song is hard to keep up with!
guitar hero world tour
November 12th, 2008well, not much new to report, except for a fairly relaxing four day weekend in celebration of veteran’s day.
today i finally played the new ‘guitar hero.’ nicole bought it, and let me say it is definitely pretty fun. better than ‘rock band?’ i don’t know, i haven’t played either enough to pick up on the subtleties. my question is, can you use ‘rock band’ and ‘guitar hero’ guitars with the other game? i would hate to have to buy four separate guitars for my wii!
we also watched ‘the mist,’ which had come highly recommended from nicole’s ex. i had read the book probably about ten years ago. what a crappy movie! what a crappy ending too! i guess that’s what you call “ironic.” it’s also what i call a depressing ending to a depressingly bad movie, so i guess it’s rather fitting.
finally, i am supposed to get a phone tomorrow. i had been living without one for over a month, and i asked my parents to send me an old phone so i could have it reactivated. in all honesty, i would rather not have one. it wasn’t an accident that my phone broke, and frankly, for my own mental and emotional well-being, breaking my phone was one of the best things i did all summer. i say “summer,” because to me it still feels like summer. maybe it’s because i never had a summer. as soon as i graduated, it was off to work, then off to training. i never had a break where i could just relax. and all the while, i was dealing with so much trauma, and i felt dead inside.
a day in the life of a bolc iii lieutenant
October 30th, 2008well, another day another doller… this is pretty much what it’s been like:
death by powerpoint:
studying shit we can’t even keep notes on (the ’secret’ cover sheet is unclassified):
and sitting around wasting a lot of time, either doing this:
or this:
yes, that’s final fantasy—the first one. which is probably as graphically intense as my government-issue laptop can play anyways!
