don’t vote

so i’m not voting today. (i’ll wait a few seconds for that one to sink in.)

i know, i know, half of you just had your heads explode. he’s not going to vote?!

nope. here’s why:

1. my vote doesn’t count! whether i vote in illinois or texas, the outcome of each state is already decided! illinois is going to obama, texas is going to mccain.

2. since my vote doesn’t count anyways, why expend all the energy and go through all the trouble of voting? economically, it doesn’t make sense. the gas used, time that could have been spent doing other things, and the risk of something bad happening—say, a car accident or getting a ticket—far outweigh any intellectual satisfaction i could get from casting a worthless vote.

3. i know i know, everyone wants to say that not voting is being a bad citizen. to vote is to exercise democracy! bullshit. democrats are—at least to a degree—capitalists, and from a purely economic/capitalist standpoint, the smart thing to do is to stay home.

4. but as someone in the military, who will feel the effects of today much more acutely than almost any other american—we’re picking my new boss, after all—i’m just going to sit back and hope the right man wins the job. cuz god knows there aren’t any jobs lined up for me in the civilian world in today’s economy!
